R.J. Smith, 63, of Troy Mills, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, from a heart attack. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at Troy Mills Christian Church, located at 3257 Wieckham St., Troy Mills, with Pastor Don McGarvey officiating. A private committal service will take place at later date.
R.J. was born on Nov. 2, 1958, to Harlan and Erdene (Jeffries) Smith. He graduated from Central City High School in 1977. On June 30, 1979, R.J. married his high school sweetheart, Deb Walker. For over 30 years, he owned Ridictas Construction, using his many talents to build and remodel homes, businesses and churches. R.J. was meticulous in everything he did and was known for his fine craftsmanship.
R.J. adored his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and nine grandchildren, and would do anything for them. He never missed any activity they were involved in. R.J. enjoyed traveling the world with his wife. He was an active member of Troy Mills Christian Church. R.J. made a friend out of everyone he met. He always had a story or joke to tell and was always there when anyone needed help.
R.J. is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Deb Smith; three daughters, Danielle (Mitch) Munson, Amanda (Matt) Starr and Paige (Bryan) Mueller; nine grandchildren, Drew, Cade, Mace, Ellie, Brayden, Lily, Eiley, Landry and Layton; five siblings, Harlene Christensen, Diana Dye, Marion (Robin) Smith, Roxanne Smith and Rusty (Christine) Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Garold and Shirley Walker; sisters-in-law, Karla (Tim) Michener and Paula Walker; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew, Chris Christensen.
Memorials in R.J.'s memory may be made to Troy Mills Christian Church.
