Quinn was born Jan. 21, 1995, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Leah Marie (Knight) and Joseph Matthew Schmidt and Bryan Patrick Houlahan. He graduated from Solon High School, with the Class of 2013, and was currently enrolled in the HVAC program at Kirkwood Community College, anticipating graduating in May. Quinn was to start an internship with Modern Piping of Cedar Rapids in May after graduation. He was excited and proud to be working toward becoming a member of Local 125 Union of Plumbers and Steamfitters in Cedar Rapids as a commercial refrigerant fitter.
To his family and many friends who knew Quinn, he was so much to so many. He mastered snow skiing as a young child from his grandfather; from tricks, to freestyle to teaching others, his passion of downhill skiing was such a part of him. When he put his mind to something, he was not one to back down or change, but one who persevered with intent, willing to listen, learn and excel, and humbled along the way. He loved his dogs, motorcycles, bicycling, hiking, kayaking and hunting for mushrooms, basically anything outdoors! Quinn was inquisitive, wanting to know why, always learning, seeking more. He was the one who knew when to stop, and the one others would look to for advice, to confide in. Young in age, but a wise old soul to so many!
His family and friends were so important to him. They include his parents, Leah and Joe Schmidt and Bryan Houlahan; siblings, Autumn Houlahan (Scott Tesar), Adam Schmidt and Andy Schmidt (Bridget); grandparents, Lowell and Sharon Knight, Sandra Christensen and Nancy Schmidt; aunts, Carmen Houlahan, Theresa Nosley (Kyle) and Angie Houlahan; cousins, Noah, Felicias and Nathan; and so many other family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James P. Houlahan, and cousin, Elijah J. Mitchell.
