Quarterman, Irene
Irene Quarterman, 89, of Urbana, went home on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. Services: 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the 42nd Street Seventh Day Adventist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor David Bissell. The family will greet friends from noon until service time at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Alfonzia; children, Joyce (Colbert Dotson) Quarterman of Silvis, Ill., Oneimus Quarterman of Rock Island, Ill. and Theresa (Archie) Collier of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, LaTrisha, Ashely, Zachary-Alfonzia, Katrina, LaShell, Arnique, Kadaess, Oneimus Jr. and Gina Irene; great-grandchildren, Maria and Zircia; brother, James (Mary) Overton of Coal Valley, Ill.; stepmother, Virgie Overton; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Tasha.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; and many brothers and sisters.
Born Sept. 28, 1923, in Ashley, Mo., Irene was the daughter of Sherman and Ada (Chapman) Overton. On Sept. 15, 1956, she was united in marriage to Alfonzia Quarterman in New Jersey. After working many years, Irene retired from the Oak Glen Nursing Home in Coal Valley, Ill.
Irene loved spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews but most of all her No. 1 love of her life for 56 years, her husband, Al. She also enjoyed music.
