Purdy, James D.
James D. Purdy, or Jim, as he was known, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at age 71. Visitation will take place at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., Dubuque, from 3 to 8 p.m. today. A celebration of his life will occur at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 1199 Main St., Dubuque. Interment will be at Linn Grove Cemetery near Mount Vernon.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Christopher; brothers, Ronald and Durwood (Dorothy) of Fontanelle, Iowa; sisters, Linda (Kay) Jensen of Fontanelle, Pat (Mike) McDermott of Greenfield and Beth Davis of Altoona; his beloved mother-in-law, Rilla Stewart of Mount Vernon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lonnie Weed of Phoenix, Ariz., Evelyn Purdy of Fontanelle, Wanda Purdy of Greenfield, Mike and Karen Stewart of Martelle and the Rev. Jim and Shari Stewart of Danville, Ky.; numerous nieces and nephews; his loving goddaughter, Nadia; his Rotary exchange student sons and their families; and a community of friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer; his parents, Muriel and Sherman Floyd Purdy; brothers, Dallas and Tom; sister, Jean Weed; sister-in-law, Helen Purdy; brother-in-law, Terry Davis; father-in-law, Glenn Stewart; and four nephews.
The family requests no flowers. A Jim Purdy memorial fund has been established.
