Puffer, Donald Everette
Donald Everette Puffer, 92, of Mechanicsville, died in his son's home in Coralville on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011. Don's funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Don's visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Don will be buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Don's survivors include son, Dr. Steve (Anita) Puffer, Coralville; daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn (Colton) Puffer; four grandsons: Wade (Jolyn Loukota) Puffer, and their daughter, Jordyn of Marion; Dr. Craig (Lesley Longerbeam) Puffer, and their children, Autumn, Carly, Michael and Bailey, of Tipton; Aaron (Meghann White) Puffer, and their sons, Patrick and Kendrick, of Altoona; Matthew (Jennifer Petsche) Puffer of Des Moines; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Platner and Helen Farrington, both of Mechanicsville; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Don in death were his parents; wife, Edith J. (Platner); son, Phillip; daughter, Jeanette; daughter-in-law, Jackie Wilson Puffer; grandson, Mark Puffer; and sisters, Mary (Puffer) Brown and Julia (Puffer) Jack.
Don was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Mechanicsville, the youngest child of Everette and Grace (Kohl) Puffer. He graduated from Mechanicsville High School and attended Iowa State University. He married Edith Platner in 1942. Don worked the family farm in Mechanicsville his entire life.
Don's love for hunting started in his childhood. He instilled that passion in his sons, grandsons and great-granddaughters.
