Prybil, Gerald T.
Gerald T. Prybil, 70, of 2985 Dubuque St. NE, Iowa City, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at his home from an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Rich Adam officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Research or Parkinson's Research.
Gerald was born April 18, 1940, in Iowa City, the son of Carl E. & Patricia (Erusha) Prybil. He grew up in the Oxford area, was a graduate of Oxford High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965. Gerald married his high school sweetheart Jean Patterson on Sept. 2, 1961, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City.
He was originally a journeyman/pressman at Moore Business Forms in Iowa City for over 14 years. In 1969, Gerald started Prybil Heating and Air in North Liberty, a business which his son presently owns and operates.
Gerald was a member of Iowa City Moose Lodge No. 1096, North Liberty Optimist Club, RSES and the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce. He loved to travel, especially spending winters in Florida in their motor home and enjoyed trout fishing and cooking for family and friends. Gerald was most happy when he was helping others.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; daughter, Cathy Figueroa (Al) of Iowa City; son, Jeff Prybil (Linda) of Iowa City; his mother, Patricia Prybil of Riverside; brothers, Carl Prybil Jr. (Loretta) of Riverside, Jim Prybil of North Liberty, Don Prybil of Riverside, Tom Prybil (Pat) of Riverside, and Steve Prybil (Kerry) of Riverside; four grandchildren, Molly and Adam Prybil and Kristen and Nick Figueroa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
