Prowse, Bernard Reginald
Bernard Reginald Prowse, 88, of Gosport, Hampshire UK, sadly passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, after a diagnosis of liver cancer in June. He died at Countess Mountbatten House, Southampton, Hampshire UK. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. (UK Time) Jan. 25, at Portchester, Hampshire UK.
Survivors include his Wife, Jean Prowse; Children, Alan, Stephen and Dennis Prowse; Daughters-in-law, Liz, Sue and Gill; Grandchildren, Barrie, Laura, Ian, Neal, Andrew and Josh; and a Great-Grandson, William.
He was preceded in death by his Mum, Gertrude Annie; his Dad, William Reginald; and a Stepbrother, William Charlie Hearne.
Bern was born in Plymouth, Devon UK in 1923. He was enlisted into the “Royal Signal” Corps in 1942 at the age of 19. He was posted to North Africa, Sicily and Austria. Bern played a critical role for the installation of the communications infrastructure for the Military Government in Austria and was in Italy during its World War II invasion.
Upon his return to England, he joined SWEB (South Western Electricity Board) whereby he began his apprenticeship as an electrician. He retired from SWEB in 1987.
Bern and Jean moved to Gosport in 1993 to enjoy retirement. Bern and Jean enjoyed afternoon and evening dances with their friends and have completed many awards for Modern Sequence Dancing.
He was so proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed many a day playing draughts and cards with them.
