Provin, Paulene Schrader
Paulene Schrader Provin, 97, of Brooklyn, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 2, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Victor Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her children, Marlene Baustian and husband Bruce of Brooklyn and Keith and wife Gail of Iowa City; grandchildren, Lewis, Morgan and Madison Baustian; stepgrandchildren, Scott Drey and wife Jennifer and Heather Drey; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Colton and Cayden Drey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; a sister, Vivian McWilliams and husband Leeman; a brother, Cecil Schrader and wife Lucille; and a nephew, Marlan McWilliams.
Paulene Mae Schrader was born Oct. 17, 1914, on the family farm near Guernsey, Iowa, the daughter of H.L. Schrader and Minnie Rose Schrader. She graduated from Guernsey High School in 1932 and the Cedar Rapids Business College. Paulene was employed at the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce Traffic Bureau for nine years. She moved to Colorado Springs for a short time but returned home due to her mother's illness and death. She then went to work in the Iowa County Auditor's Office in Marengo. She married Walter Clark Provin on Oct. 3, 1951, in Deep River. He died in 1990. She moved to Brooklyn, Iowa in 1991.
Paulene was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, the United Methodist Women, and was a Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of the Victor United Methodist Women and a past member of Eastern Star. In the past, Paulene was a Commissioner of Elections in Victor.
