PROFESSOR DAVID "DOUG" DOUGLAS HALL JR. Cedar Rapids Professor David "Doug" Douglas Hall Jr., 80, of Cedar Rapids, died on Thursday, Dec. 3 2020, at St Luke's Hospital from complications of COVID-19. Services will be held at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Doug is survived by his wife, Diane Richardson McLain; his sons, Matt Hall of Portland, Ore., Ben (Cathleen) Hall of Fresno, Calif., and A.J. (Sheila) Hall of Park City, Utah; his stepchildren, Scott McLain and Judy (Kevin) McLain of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Nathan, Kathryn, Jared, Andrew and Eli Hall; sister, Martha (Richard) Shaw of Frustuck, Calif.; stepmother, Peggy Stickler of California; half-sisters, Irene (Greg) Wotta of California, Mary (Chris) Sarris of California and Annie (Bob) Bosche of California; along with many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Chris; and in-laws, Stanley and Georgia Richardson. Doug is the son of David and Helen Hall in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, Calif. Doug attended graduate school at the University of Iowa graduating with a M.A. and M.F.A. On July 5, 1990, he met Diane Richardson McLain at an art opening and the two were married 50 days later on Aug. 24, 1990. Doug was a Professor of Art at Kirkwood Community College from 1969, until he retired in 2012. He also worked as a T.A. for Mauricio Lasansky while in grad school. Doug enjoyed art and gardening and was a member of the Iowa State Education Association.
