Procok, Robert
Robert Procok, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 29, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 72 years, Caryl; his daughters, Kathy (Harry Birch) Goldsberry and Shelly (Dean) Hatfield, Cedar Rapids; and his grandchildren, Jill (Tony) Tabaka of Minnesota, Kori Smith-Wesner and Amy Goldsberry, both of Ely, Drew (Connie) Hatfield, Ryan (Summer) Hatfield and Regan (Mitch) Bloomquist, all of Cedar Rapids, Kim (Shawn) Finn of Walford and Susan (Rick) Herrera of North Carolina. Also surviving are his 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; close family friend, Shirley Cox; as well as nieces, nephews and many extended family members.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Ben, Al, Stan, Lillian, Leo and Dick.
Bob was born March 27, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Peter and Christina (Trachta) Procok. He was united in marriage to Caryl Rosalie Kurtz on Nov. 3, 1939, in Cedar Rapids. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at both Butternut and Sunbeam bakeries, and later was a supervisor for several years at Cryovac.
He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, El Kahir Shrine, where he was a member of the Foot Patrol, VFW Post 788, American Legion Post 298 (he was formerly a member of Post 5), the Eagles Club and the Bowling Association.
Bob enjoyed golfing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, watching Gunsmoke, and his beloved dog Pepper.
He also loved playing his accordion and various polka tunes for his family who would often sing along. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was that of being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend.
He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Bob's honor be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
