Priske, Stanton L.

Stanton L. Priske, 69, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a brief illness. Services will be Saturday, March 20, at the Church on Northland, First Baptist Church of the Brethren. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by memorial services at 11 a.m.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; son, Todd Priske, and his children, Brandon, T.J., and Angelina, of Cedar Rapids; Marc Priske and wife Jennifer, daughter, Olivia, residing in Kettering, Ohio; and Stan's father, Harold Priske of Eldora, Iowa. Stan is also survived by his brother, Steve and wife Linda Priske, and their three sons and families; also surviving are much loved Labradors Ike and Abby, along with a myriad of loving and loyal friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Miriam; and his Labrador companions, Brandy, Cher, Turbo, Blue, Cash, Brave and Annie.

 Stan was born Sept. 2, 1940, son of Harold and Mariam Priske of Eldora, Iowa. He remained a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids. Iowa, for 47 years after marrying his wife, Karen Mitchell, on Sept. 8, 1962. Stan graduated from Eldora High School and received a golf scholarship at Iowa Wesleyan in Mount Pleasant, where he graduated in 1962 with a B.A. degree in marketing. He was a letterman in basketball and golf.

 As a young man, Stan was driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and after two years of employment with Collins Radio he and two work associates founded Three Arts Advertising, Inc. This agency brought with it countless friends and clients who forged long running business and social relationships that were premised off core values of loyalty and commitment, with an emphasis on fun. He served as president and later CEO for Three Arts Advertising, Inc. for 45 years until his retirement in 2007.

Stan, was often depicted as “a man's man.” He possessed a quick wit and sharp sense of humor and he interrelated well with people from all walks of life. He was a man without pretense and throughout his life he treated others with mutual respect, the courtesy of active listening, and was often sought out for his business acumen and advice. Stan was contemplative and could often be seen stroking his mustache as he processed and pondered what was being said.

 Throughout his life, Stan was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for golfing, hunting, fishing, and boating. He spent much of his leisure time field trialing and running his black labs. He and his wife enjoyed boating on the Mississippi in McGregor, Iowa, and he loved making excursions to his commercial camp on Gammon Lake in Canada, where he fished for Walleye and Northern Pike. He enjoyed grilling, debating and philosophical discussion, traveling, anything that was competitive. Stan typically demonstrated an alpha male mentality which often entailed lots of programming, feedback, and ongoing direction to his friends and family. Stan was a sports fanatic and loved country music and the camaraderie of his companions, both people and pets.

 The family extends their sincerest gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Ghosh and the staff at Iowa Blood and Cancer Care, Mercy Hospice, and the Dennis and Donald Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

Memorials may be made to the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation which provides financial assistance for cancer treatment.
