Primmer, Evelyn N.
Evelyn N. Primmer, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton, with the Rev. David Gates officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Evelyn was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Chauncey L. “Dutch” and Clara L. Stroller Primmer. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Vinton, in 1943. She graduated from nursing school at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs in 1946. She worked as a registered nurse in Chicago, receiving further education in obstetrics at the University of Chicago. She worked in Vinton, Waterloo and at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids for 28 years. She had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids and served her country in the Student Nurses Corps during World War II.
Evelyn was very proud of her Irish heritage, and she loved animals.
Evelyn is survived by three sisters, Jean (Wendell) Larson, Mary Ellen Primmer and Linda (Paul) Yulga; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Kathleen Smith; and two brothers, Robert and Charles Primmer.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army or Friends of the Shelter.
