Prieto, Mary L. (Hernandez)

Mary L. (Hernandez) Prieto, 84, of Ames, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Moline, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Loreto Prieto of Ames and Larry Prieto of Missouri; a grandson, Indelisio Prieto of Ames; brother, Ray Hernandez of Cedar Rapids; sister, Inez Schrader of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Dr. Karen Scheel of Ames.

Mary was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Aniceto and Irene (Cortez) Hernandez. She worked for John Deere & Company as a data entry operator for over 20 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, John Deere Retirees and the ladies auxiliaries of the Eagles Aerie 1112, Moline American Legion Post 246 and Rock Island VFW Post 1303. Mary enjoyed playing bingo with her many friends in the Quad Cities area.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Miguel “Mike”, Hank and Joe Hernandez.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
