Priebe, Bernece Theresa (Kapler)
Bernece Theresa (Kapler) Priebe, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m., and at the church Monday after 9 a.m.
Bernece is survived by two daughters, Carol (Jim) Heffernen of Cedar Rapids, and Sharon (Ray) Poeppe of Algona; grandchildren, Molly Heffernen of Cedar Rapids, Michael Heffernen of Iowa City, Doug (Kim) Poeppe, Darren (Julie) Poeppe, and Dena (Larry) Evers, all of Algona, and Danielle DeRoos of New Ulm, Minn.; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Williamson of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; a sister, Evelyn; and her brothers, Dennis, Arnold, and Charles.
Bernece was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Cresco, one of six children of Daniel and Martha Grimm Kapler. She was united in marriage to Lester Priebe on Nov. 27, 1937, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco. He died in 1990. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Her love of life was her family. She always treasured music, playing the piano, and singing at family gatherings. She always enjoyed spending time outside and in her garden. Her devoted and faithful life in prayer was a big part of her life. She was a caring person with a great memory and was always informed on current national and local news.
Bernece's life was one full of love, both given and received. Her strong faith in God was shown in everything she did and it never wavered despite the challenges she faced.
The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful and compassionate staff and caregivers at Hospice of Mercy and Mercy Medical Center and Dr. Melaine Stahlberg.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
