Powell, Iola
Iola Powell, 93, formerly of Coggon, died April 3, 2010 at Summit Pointe Assisted Living in Marion. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by Rev. Mike Morgan. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5:30 p.m. today and one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Elzo; son, Ben (Pat) Powell of Blandinsville, Ill.; daughter, Deanna (Doug) Fay of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Brian, Jeff, and C.J. Fay, Brett Powell, and Brianne Mahoney; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.
Iola was born December 23, 1916 in rural Delaware County, the daughter of Benjamin and Sara (McMullen) Falconer. She graduated from Coggon High School, then married Elzo Powell on May 8, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. Iola was a lifelong farm wife and mother. She drove a school bus for 33 years for Linn-Mar and North-Linn school districts. Iola attended First United Methodist Church in Marion and had formerly attended Silver Creek and Coggon Methodist churches.
A memorial fund will be established in Iola's memory.
