Potter, Earl W.
Earl W. Potter, 79, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord Monday, Sept. 28, 2009. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 298 of Marion. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his sons, David (Barbara) Potter of Batavia, Ill., and Daniel (Susan) Potter of Ashburn, Va.; six grandchildren, Scott, Jay, Michael, Robert, Benjamin and Hannah Potter; two sisters, Betty Stephanson of North Carolina and Margaret Ann (David) Dunshee of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Laurie Schultz; and a sister, Kathryn Lotts.
Earl was born May 16, 1930, in Freeport, Ill., the son of Earl S. and Leona (Couplin) Potter. He married Susan Wake on Sept. 17, 1952. They later divorced. Earl worked for many years in the industrial tools sales field. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict, and was a member of American Legion Post 298 of Marion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice in Earl's memory.
