Porter, Jane
Jane Porter, 63, of Anamosa, passed away at the Hospice House of Mercy from peritoneal cancer Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa, by the Rev. David O'Connor. A visitation will be held at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements are with Iowa Cremation.
Jane is survived by her husband, Charlie; her mother, Mary Ellen O'Connor Schreurs of Rock Rapids, Iowa; sister, Mary Janella “Jan” (Richard) Fonder of Sioux Falls, S.D.; aunt, Jean Cadwell of Sioux Falls, S.D.; numerous cousins; many in-law relatives; and a large number of close friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd; brother, Gerald “Jerry”; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jane E. Schreurs was born Aug. 27, 1950, in Sibley, Iowa, to Francis and Mary Ellen Schreurs. She was raised in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1968 and then attended Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, and the University of Iowa. She married Charles Porter in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on April 15, 1972. Jane worked for Linn-Jones Farm Service, Anamosa, and later retired from the Anamosa State Penitentiary in 2010.
Jane enjoyed cross country skiing, golfing, sewing, baking and enjoying time with her many friends and three pets.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Mercy or the Humane Society.
