Popelka, Charles J.
Charles J. Popelka, 89, a resident of the Millard Good Samaritan Home in Omaha, Neb., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at the Good Samaritan Home on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, after a short illness. Graveside services will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, a resident of Good Samaritan; three sons, Charles Jr. of Ottumwa, Tim (Renee) of Omaha and Gary (Sue) of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George; and a stillborn daughter, Alice Marie.
Charles was born March 28, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Marie Viktora Popelka. He married Ruth M. Sievers on April 4, 1944, in Harlington, Texas. Charles was an engineer at Link Belt Speeder and retired from there in 1982 after many years of service. He proudly served in the Air Force during World War II.
Charles and his family enjoyed many good times at their cabin on Lake Delhi.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
