Plaza, Olga 'Marie'
Olga “Marie” Plaza, 94, of Sioux City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died June 12, 2011, in a Sioux City nursing home. Private graveside services were held in Czech National Cemetery. Arrangements with Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City.
Survivors include a son, Thomas M. Plaza J.D. and his wife, Glenda, of Sioux City; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Michelle Skulley and her husband, Christopher, and their son, Logan, of Broomfield, Colo., Tome Hope and her husband, Andrew, and their sons, Owen, Jacob and Henry, of Waukee, and Celina Plaza of San Francisco, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John L. Plaza D.D.S.; her parents;three sisters and a brother.
Marie was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa,the daughter of John L. and Mary Ann (Prochaska) Melichar. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, where she met and married John Plaza on June 28, 1944. He died May 30, 1995, in Cedar Rapids. In 1999, Marie moved to Sioux City, where she made her home at NorthPark Senior Community Living.
Marie enjoyed her family, her friends at NorthPark, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Sioux City Symphony and the Sioux City Concert Course. She was a member of St. Ludmila Parish in Cedar Rapids her entire life until moving to Sioux City, then she became a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
