Platts, Thomas 'Tom' W.
Thomas “Tom” W. Platts, 64, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial, including military honors: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established in Tom's memory.

Thomas W. Platts was born June 17, 1949, in Iowa City. His father was a career military person so their family moved often. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served during the Vietnam War. Returning from service he married Ava M. Bowers and the couple made their home in Iowa City. He worked for the VA Hospital for many years before his health conditions forced him to retire.
His family includes his wife, Ava; their children, Wendi Peach of North English, Jennifer Platts of Lone Tree, Jaime Platts of Wellman, James Platts of Shellsburg and Greg Platts (Caitlin) of Fort Campbell, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, Samantha, Nicholas, Codi, Caleb, Alexandra, Trevor, Savannah, Gavin, Henry, Bronin, Zoe and Julia; sisters, Vivian Pierson (Connie) and Anita Platts, and their mother, Frances Johnson (William), all of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his father.
