Plate, Charles H. 'Charlie'
Charles H. “Charlie” Plate, 37, of Iowa City, died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City from cancer. Services will begin Wednesday at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. The Rev. Barie Tritle and the Rev. Kenneth Royar will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Charles Plate Memorial Fund.
Charlie was born March 3, 1975, in Iowa City, the son of Harold and Nancy (Lord) Plate. Growing up in Iowa City, Charlie graduated from Iowa City West High School and received an associate degree in criminal justice from Hamilton (Kaplan) University. For five years, Charlie worked as a custodian at Shimek Elementary in Iowa City. Charlie was currently working in receiving at Paul's Discount in Iowa City.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was an Eagle Scout. He very much enjoyed his outings with the Classy Chassy Car Club.
Survivors include his parents, Harold and Nancy of Iowa City; brothers and sisters, Terri Lowrance (Rex) of Roscoe, Ill., Dennis Plate of Iowa City, Diane Stastny (friend Carlos Trevino) of Cedar Rapids and Janice Cohenour (Todd) of Cedar Rapids; and four nieces and nephews, Justin, Jennifer, Andrew and Abbigail.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a brother, Timothy.
