Mary Kathleen Pitlik was born Feb. 8, 1930, at the rural family farm. She was born and raised in Mount Vernon and graduated from Mount Vernon High School, with the class of 1947. She married Eddie on Sept. 14, 1949, at St John's in Lisbon, Iowa, and moved to what is now the historical Abbe Creek School house. She lived and loved her farm, especially horses, barn cats and everything else country life entailed. She was out doing yard work and picking hickory nuts and walnuts until the day she died.
Sis had a very strong faith and was devoted to the members and family at St John the Baptist Catholic Church. She gave her time as a trustee of Franklin township for several years. She was active in the community compiling class composites for Mount Vernon community schools and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Sis was known for her endless energy and generosity - many have benefited from her baked goods and her compassionate nature.
As much joy as Sis obtained from farm life and being outdoors, her family and friends were her true devotion.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
