Pirkl, Leslie Ann (Morrison)
Leslie Ann (Morrison) Pirkl, 48, died Nov. 1, 2011, after a 17-month battle with brain cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Brent Hartwig officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Monday. Luncheon will be at the church following burial.
Leslie was born Oct. 4, 1963, in Seymour, Ind., the daughter of Edgar and Sandra (Stanfield) Morrison. Leslie moved to Iowa City in 1980 and graduated from City High School in 1983. On April 17, 1993, Leslie married Edward “Edd” Pirkl at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Leslie was employed at ENT Medical Services for the past 15 years where she was a medical coder and handled insurance claims. She enjoyed working for the doctors at ENT, as well as all her co-workers.
As a hobby Leslie loved to cross stitch. Several of her cross stitch pictures are displayed at home and others were given as gifts. She especially enjoyed hearing Amber sing and seeing the artistry that Brittney would create.
Leslie was a quiet, loving, caring person who loved to spend time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to doctors Matt Howard and Thomas Carlisle at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and to Iowa City Hospice and its staff for the exceptional care they provided to Leslie.
Leslie is survived by her husband, Edward “Edd”; their two daughters, Amber, 16, and Brittney, 13; her mother, Sandra Libenguth of Iowa City; her siblings, Brian Morrison and Stephanie Morrison, both of Iowa City, and Melissa (Allan) Sorenson of Ames, and their daughters, Sydney and Sophie; her in-laws, Donald (Patricia) Pirkl of Tiffin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Christine (Clayton) Land of Swisher and Gary Pirkl of Tiffin; and nieces and nephews.
Leslie was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Morrison Jr.; stepfather, Louis Libenguth; and her grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Leslie Pirkl Children's Educational Trust or Iowa City Hospice.
