Pins, Merlin J.
Merlin J. Pins, 83, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Luxemburg, Iowa, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Monticello Nursing & Rehab Center, Monticello. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, with funeral services following at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg. Burial: church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Raymond Burkle.
Merlin was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Holy Cross, Iowa, the son of Alphonse and Margaret (Theisen) Pins. He married Gladys M. Kortenkamp on Jan. 10, 1950, in Lamont. They resided in Independence until they divorced and Merlin moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked for Allen Motors and Handlers. Merlin loved to work on cars and ride motorcycles.
Survivors include his four children, Michael of Cedar Rapids, Gerald (Socorro) of Henderson, Nev., Ronald (Luann) of Independence and Julie Creech of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Jason Pins, Brianne Pins, Brandon Pins, Billie Jo Gaiser and Jaclyn Pins; two great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Larry Lechtenberg of Loveland, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Jeanette Lechtenberg of Loveland, Colo.
