Pike Jr., Van M.
Van M. Pike Jr., 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 13, 2013, at Northbrook Manor Care Center. Per Van's wishes no services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Patricia Pike of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; and his son, Ric.
Van was born March 7, 1925, in Red Oak, Iowa, the beloved son of Anna and Van M. Pike Sr. Van attended school in Red Oak, served in the Air Force and the Army in World War II, and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Henkle on July 11, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed briefly at Smulekoff's and at Perpetual Savings & Loan in Cedar Rapids before going to work for International Harvester (now Navistar) in 1953. He retired from Navistar in 1990.
Memorial donations may be made to Unity Point Hospice in Van's honor.
