Piersall, Arnold C.
Arnold C. Piersall, 87, of Menomonie, Wis., passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Don Gribble officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Menomonie, with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. There will be visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, where masonic services will be held at 7 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two daughters, Joyce Lynn (Steve) Schwarz of Lima, N.Y., and Jean Marie (Edward) Mejerle of Woodruff, Wis.; a granddaughter, Megan L. Schwarz; a grandson, William P. Schwarz; a brother, Dale S. (Laura) Piersall of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Moen of Guttenberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Verda Snider; a brother, Lloyd; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Metcalf.
He was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Fairfax, Iowa, the son of Earl S. and Iva M. (Myers) Piersall, and raised in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1941. Arnold was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 in the 3180th Signal Service Battalion. He served in Okinawa and was discharged in 1946. On Dec. 28, 1946, he married Donna Marie Lindahl at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. They moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where Arnold received his bachelor's degree in 1949 from Iowa State Teachers College. Arnold taught high school in Eldora, Cedar Falls and Jefferson, Iowa and started college teaching at Mankato State College, Mankato, Minn. In 1960, he started teaching at U.W. Stout in Menomonie, Wis. He taught at Stout until his retirement in 1988. Arnold received his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in 1951 and his Ed. D. from U.N.C. in 1964.
He was a member and Past Master of Menomonie Masonic Lodge 164, and a member of the Scottish Rite – Valley of Eau Claire, Mehara Shrine Club, and Zor Shrine. He was a former member of American Legion Post 32. Arnold was also a member of Menomonie United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the American Vocational Association, American Industrial Arts Association and the American Council on Technology Teacher Education.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Arnold and Donna Piersall Scholarship Fund in the U.W. Stout Foundation or to Shrine Children's Hospital.
