Calvin Ronald Pierce, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away in his home on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2013, surrounded by family. A private graveside service will be held for the family.
Calvin was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Lawler, Iowa, the son of Merle and Francis (Marvets) Pierce. He served in the Navy in World War II. Calvin married Elizabeth Ann Conner on Feb. 18, 1948 in West Union, Iowa. He retired from Quaker Oats. Calvin loved to watch boxing, wrestling, and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Survivors include two daughters, Ronna (Mike) O'Connor and Sandra Irons; three sons, Merle (Robin) Pierce, Calvin (Karen) Pierce and Phillip (Jerrie) Pierce; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Claude (Mary) Pierce.
Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his parents; four sisters; Hazel Usher, Loretta Weiters, Rena Kalvig and Eunice Bowers; and one brother, Cletus Pierce; and two great-grandchildren, Roxanne and Marcus.
The family would like to thank Iowa Hospice for their love and care.
