Phyllis Jean Coulter was born on Jan. 16, 1927, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of William and Grace (Gilmore) Coulter. At she was 5, her family moved to Iowa City where she attended Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School. Phyllis married William K. Zinkula on July 12, 1947, in Iowa City. For over 30 years, she worked in the secretarial field for the University of Iowa, many of those in the Institute of Public Affairs office.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the church circle. Phyllis was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and spending time at the casino. But most dear to her heart was her family. She loved them dearly and her life was devoted to them!
Her family includes her husband, Bill; children, Steve Zinkula and his wife, Vicki, of Marion, and Jan Zinkula of Iowa City; grandchildren, Lynnette Poula (Mitch), Wendy Bream and Todd Zinkula (Lisa); and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lisa Bream; and two brothers, Richard and Jerry Coulter.
Phyllis's family would like to thank everyone at Iowa City Hospice for their compassionate care of not only Phyllis, but all of our family too!
