Phyllis "Phyl" Britcher, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service:
10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids.
Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Phyl was born July 10, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Velma (Hulshizer) Fankhauser. Phyl graduated from Tipton High School in 1956 and graduated from the University of Iowa with her teaching degree. She was a teacher at College Community schools for 30 years and she also was a middle school and high school coach. Phyl kept score at Prairie for volleyball and both girls' and boys' basketball games, and also enjoyed her time as the "eye in the sky" at Prairie football games. Phyl was a member of the St. Patrick's Church choir and played accordion for the Iowa Accordion Club band and "Neil and His Diamonds." She was a devoted volunteer at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center in Cedar Rapids. Phyl loved her family and friends very much and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She left an impression on everyone she met.
Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Schupanitz of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Tracey Pike of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Erleen) Fankhauser of Tipton, Iowa; and her special friend, Sandy Crawley of Cedar Rapids.
Phyl was preceded in death by her parents; son, Brad Britcher; grandson, Brandon Schupanitz; and sisters, Betty Fankhauser and Darlene Strain.
