Phyllis Luetta Thein, 85, passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side, on February 5, 2024, after a long illness. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Bohnenkamp - Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Phyllis, under “photos and videos or media,” starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024. Inurnment will follow at the Edgewood Cemetery, Edgewood, Iowa.
Phyllis was born August 31, 1938, in Independence, Iowa. She grew up on her parents' farm near Edgewood, IA. She graduated Edgewood High School in 1957. She provided for her four children until she met the love of her life, Jerome (Jerry) Thein, and they were married in Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on September 14, 1974. Together for almost 50 years, they loved and supported each other, he caring for her till the end. In 1985, they moved to Summerfield, North Carolina and lived there until her passing. Phyllis worked as a lab technician in the quality assurance laboratory at Proctor & Gamble in Greensboro, NC for many years, retiring in 2000.
Phyllis was full of life, spunky, and loved to make people laugh. She loved to go dancing to the big bands in her early days and enjoyed her country music. She was an awesome cook, kept a garden and canned fresh vegetables her whole life, and always wanted to share her recipes. She was an amazing mother, and she was our rock. Phyllis will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Jerome Thein; sons, Timothy Hersom (Mary Jo), Warren Hersom, Stanley Hersom, Steve Thein (Brenda); daughter, Julia Hall; siblings, Pattianne Hulshizer, Virginia Linderwell, Dale Jones (Virginia), Diane Maruquin (Leslie); grandchildren, Kale Hersom, Elliegh McGraw, Carley Hersom, Allison Scheer, Gavin Hersom, Natalie Hersom, Lily Hersom, Sierrah Hall, Tonya Knighten, Trevor Thein and Dakota Thein and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Julia Jones; and her sister, Janice Spurgin (Jones).
