Phyllis Joan (Carsner) Forcht, 85, of Knoxville, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, Iowa. Per Phyllis' wishes, no services are planned at this time.
Phyllis was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Marion, Iowa, the daughter of Louis Gilbert and Mary Elizabeth (McConaughy) Carsner. Phyllis grew up and attended school in the Marion area.
Phyllis remained in Cedar Rapids, where she raised her three children: Mary Kay, Brenda and Mitchell "Mickey" Bassett. In 1968, Phyllis and her family moved to Knoxville, and then to Alabama for a short time in 1972, before returning to Knoxville.
In 1972, Phyllis and Billy Forcht were united in marriage in Knoxville. They shared over 40 years of marriage before his passing in August 2015.
Phyllis was a shopper. She always was looking for bargains and telling her family about her great finds while shopping at Goodwill or the Almost Free Shop. For many years Phyllis enjoyed having coffee with her family at Mr. C's.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Mary Kay (Bassett) Kennedy of Knoxville, Brenda Lee (Bassett) Brown of Knoxville and Mitchell and Kim Bassett of Alabama; 11 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Louis Carsner and Stu Carsner.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother, Mary E. Carsner; father, Louis G. Carsner; one granddaughter, Mikki (Followill) Orr; and two brothers, Steve Carsner and Jim Carsner.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Phyllis' name to Pella Hospice.
