Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, has taken Phyllis into their care.
Phyllis was born Jan. 13, 1927, daughter of Ray and Wilma (Wells) Powers in Anamosa, Iowa. She was married to Emmund Wilken on July 12, 1944. Phyllis was a dedicated mother. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music. She volunteered at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the food bank and the Monticello Rehab and Care Center. She loved visiting friends either in their homes or at the care center and often provided transportation for them. Phyllis cherished her family and friends and never missed sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and for "just because." Phyllis had an infectious smile and her strong faith provided support and comfort during difficult times.
Phyllis was employed at both John McDonald Hospital and Anamosa Community Hospital for many years. She also worked for the Eastern Iowa Visiting Nurses and Monticello Senior Dining.
Survivors include six children, Grant (Patty) of Marion, Iowa, Laurel (Michael) Solomon of Aiea, Hawaii, Dennis (Rebecca) of Cottageville, S.C., Diane Tuetken and Sheryl (John) McElmeel of Monticello, Iowa, and Jill (Jay) Iben of Anamosa, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by four brothers, Merlin, Dean, Glen and Darrell; a sister, Barbara Northrup; a son, Gaylan; and a daughter, Sharon Coffland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Phyllis' name may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the Monticello Food Bank or Camp Courageous.

The family wishes to thank the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center staff and Above and Beyond staff for the compassionate care Phyllis received during her illness.
