Phyllis Anne Pate, 82, of Bertram, Iowa, formerly of Epworth, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Grand Living in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at All Saints Catholic Church at 720 29th Street SE, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be held at Campbell Cemetery in Bertram, Iowa, at a later date.
Phyllis was born on November 22, 1943, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Wilfred and Mary (Entringer) Nestor. After graduating from Wahlert Catholic High School in Dubuque, Iowa, she earned her Nursing Degree. Phyllis worked as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital and Medical Associates in Dubuque, Iowa, and then at UnityPoint Hospital in Cedar Rapids until her retirement in 2012.
On November 25, 1965, Phyllis was united in marriage to George Elliott Pate at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Epworth and All Saints Parish in Cedar Rapids. Phyllis was a longtime member of Silker’s Volleyball team. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Phyllis is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, George of Bertram; four children, Mark Pate of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Angela Ormsby Minneapolis, Minnesota, David Pate of Cedar Rapids, and Mary (Jason) Powers of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Pate, Christina (Tony) Machowski, Alex (Meghan), Drew, and Matthew Ormsby, and Jack Powers; great-grandchildren, Leyla, Summer, and Colton Pate; brother, Don (Gale) Nestor of Mequon, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
