Phyliss Ann (Bird) Holden, 87, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Marco Island, Fla., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Aug. 6, 2014, in Tucson, Ariz., from complications related to a stroke.
Phyliss is survived by her sister, Patricia, who resides in Los Angeles; her brother, Ross, who lives in St. Paul, Minn.; six children: Philip, Dallas, Texas; Dyan, Denver, Colo.; Martin, Dallas; Michael, Edmond, Okla.; Monica, Tucson, Ariz., and Timothy of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Phyliss was born in Chicago in 1927. After moving to Cedar Rapids, she attended St. Patrick's School and then on to St. Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Ind., as well as Kirkwood Community College for medical studies later in life.
She was a founding member of the Linn County Food Bank and actively participated in other charitable and religious-affiliated organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 53 years, Richard Holden.
A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial will immediately follow the funeral Mass in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. No visitation service is scheduled before the Mass.
