Phillips, Arlene Dessie (Murray)
Arlene Dessie (Murray) Phillips, 90, of Delhi, died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, at the Delhi United Methodist Church in Delhi by the Rev. Lorraine Hartman. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville, and one hour before services Friday at the church in Delhi. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Arlene was born March 29, 1921, at La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of James and Bessie (Mason) Murray. On Nov. 18, 1940, she was united in marriage to Hubert Phillips.
Arlene is survived by one son, Gary (Linda) of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Sheryl (Lou) Hein, of Walford; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Berna Deane (Harold) Benter; one sister-in-law, Connie Murray; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bessie Murray; her husband, Hubert Phillips; one sister, Ila Helms; and six brothers, Dale, Rollin, Arlo, Milo, Dwight and Don Murray.
Memorials may be directed to Dollars for Scholars at the Maquoketa Valley Schools in Delhi or your favorite charity in Alene's memory.
