Phillip Leroy Oakes
Phillip Leroy Oakes
Shoreline, Wash.
Phillip Oakes was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Harley and Hulda Oakes. He was the youngest of three boys, attended Wilson High and worked for Merchants Natl Bank. During the Korean War, he served in active duty from 1951-1954.
Phil married his sweetheart, Annalee Clemons, and the couple moved to Seattle. For the next 35 years, he worked in auditing and international banking. He especially enjoyed visiting churches and missionaries overseas. Phil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a faithful Christian and loved to participate in Bible studies.
Phil had a heart to serve. He was a community volunteer for the Shoreline police department, food bank coordinator, church usher and chaperone on the Shoreline Schools ski buses. Throughout his life, he touched people with his generous, practical nature.
Phil will be remembered for living out his daily mission to bring cheer to others. He will be deeply missed by us all.
Phillip Leroy Oakes is preceded in death by his loving wife, Annalee; and is survived by his daughters, Alice Johnson (Phil), Joyce Oakes and Anne Strand (Roger); three grandchildren, Rachel Zupke (Ben), Sarah Balian (Aaron) and Paul Johnson (Sarah); and six great-grandchildren.
