Phillip L. Gaeta Sr., 87, of Muscatine, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at St. Mathias Church in Muscatine. Phillip will be laid to rest at the Rock Island Arsenal with full military honors. Due to the pandemic,
there will be no visitation. Online condolences may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous.
Phillip was born July 19, 1933, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Louis C. and Filippa Cirivello Gaeta. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. Phillip was employed at the Gaeta Beer Distributorship and at Nash Finch/Econofoods in Muscatine. He was a member of St. Mary and Mathias Catholic parish and an avid supporter of Camp Courageous. Phillip was a very social person and loved talking to people.
He is survived by three sons, Luis Gaeta of Moline, Ill., Phillip Gaeta Jr. of Muscatine and Nick (Maureen) Gaeta of Hiawatha; a daughter, Monica (Tom) Songer of Oppelo, Ark.; grandchildren, Eli Gaeta, Allyssa Gaeta, Kristina Tuller, Kayla Gaeta, Quentin Gaeta, Sean Songer and Jerrod Songer; great-grandchildren, Orion, Owen and Emmalyn Tuller, Leland, Leah and Haisley Reinier, Axlii and Amari Songer, and Timber Songer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carmelo, Joseph, Charles and Vincent Gaeta; and three sisters, Providence and Mary Gaeta and Rose LoBianco.
