Center Point
Phillip G. Cummings, 57, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date. The family requests that everyone wear their favorite Hawaiian, biker or concert shirt.
Phil was born on April 10, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Paul and Elsie (Fitzgarrald) Cummings. He was a 1983 graduate of Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and went on to graduate from Upper Iowa University with a degree in Conservation Management. On April 13, 1996, Phil was united in marriage to Halane Cumberland in Marion, Iowa. He worked for the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Phil was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Punk Rock Saves Lives, Ducks Unlimited and KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society). He lived for the outdoors, volunteering at Cedar Valley Nature Center Bee Keeping Classes, mud running, annual mushroom hunting and riding his Harley with family and friends. Phil supported his family in everything they did. Together Phil and Halane owned and operated Dizzy Daddy BBQ. Phil will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Phil is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 27 years, Halane; children, Molly Cummings of Lawrence, Kan., and Emmet Cummings of Cedar Falls; mother, Elsie Cummings of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Lorie (Don) Christy of Marengo and Carman (Tom) Rosburg of Colorado; in-laws, Diana (Marion) Lamphier of Urbana and Gwen (Bryan) Schaeffer of Urbana; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial fund in Phil’s name has been established.
