Phillip J. Dvorak, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after noon. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Emilie; a daughter, Debra (Steve) Puderbaugh of Candia, N.H.; two granddaughters, Laura Puderbaugh of Candia, N.H., and Krista Puderbaugh of Jackson, Miss.; two sisters, Mary Ann (Wally) Gau of Dubuque and Angela Mally of Hiawatha; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Phil was born July 30, 1923, in Clutier, the son of Joseph and Anna Zmolek Dvorak. He married Emilie A. Holmes on June 8, 1952, in Shabbona, Ill.
Phil was an over-the-road truck driver for Union Freightways and P.I.E. for 32 years, retiring in 1980.
In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, trips to Candia to visit his family and watching his granddaughters grow up.
He proudly served in the Navy during World War II.
Phil was a wonderful husband, father and bro-ther whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
