Philip J. Harney, 56, of Iowa City, died Saturday, July 16, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics after a long illness.
A funeral Mass will begin 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City.
Instead of flowers and plants, the family kindly requests memorials to Genesis Medical Center Rehabilitation Unit (c/o Dr. Conway Chin) or The Newman Singers.
Phil is survived by his wife, Soni; his mother, Marguerite of Iowa City; sons, Brock Harney (Heather) of La Crosse, Wis., and Drew Harney (Sarah Sebeny) of North Liberty; brothers and sisters, Vicki Phillips (Mike) of Plainview, Texas, Mike Harney (Marsha) of Iowa City, Joyce Carroll (Steve) of Iowa City, Janet Harney (Edward Broyles) of Alexandria, Va., and Larry Harney of Iowa City; two faithful companions, Champ and Cooper; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Phil was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Harney.
