Petersen, Gary Douglas
Gary Douglas Petersen, 70, of Denton, Texas, originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton. Services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4.
Surviving Gary are his stepmother, Bette Henning; sister, Jody Kanton; daughters, Heather James and Gretchen Dye; son, Errich Petersen; grandson, Wayne Green; and granddaughters, Jacee and Jordan Dye.
Preceding Gary were his parents, Chris Petersen and Leona O'Malley.
Gary received his BA in music from Parsons College in Fairfield, studied at Westminster Choir College, received a Master of Arts in education from Oklahoma City University, and did Ph.D. studies at the University of Oklahoma and University of North Texas. He taught music, conducted choirs, sang with various opera companies, and devoted his life to music and his family.
