Peters, Marvin
Marvin Peters, 84, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, with military honors. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of the arrangements.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Hasler, and two nephews, Paul (Deanne) Hasler and Peter Hasler, all of Monticello; a niece, Nancy (Doug) Streeper, Solon; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl; and a brother-in-law, Peter Hasler.
Marvin John Peters was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Lovell Township, Jones County, Iowa, the son of John Henry and Anna (Mardorf) Peters. Marvin received his education in Lovell Township School No. 1. Marvin then started farming with his parents. Marvin served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He returned home to farm in Lovell Township, an occupation he continued until he was 80 years old.
