Peters, Goldie E.
Goldie E. Peters, 86, of Independence, died Tuesday evening, June 25, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, with her family at her side.
Goldie was born April 22, 1927, in St. Paul, Neb., the daughter of Edward Edgar and Katherine Marie (Halla) Vincik. She attended rural schools and graduated and received her normal teaching certificate from St. Paul High School in 1945. On June 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Alvin D. Peters in Grand Island, Neb. The couple farmed in the St. Lebory, Neb. area and Goldie taught in rural schools before moving to Independence in 1949 where they continued to farm until 1951. Goldie then became employed with Corn Blossom, The Wapsi Fly Company, Microswitch and the Independence Community Schools, before her retirement.
She is survived by four daughters, Peggy (Barrett) Everhart, Leesburg, Va., Judy (Randy) Miller, Independence, Connie (Bill) Scharff-Flora, Greenville, S.C. and Linda (Raul) Aguirre, Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Vincik, Springville; and a sister; Kathryn Peters, Monticello.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin Peters on Dec. 21,2011; and a son-in-law, Wade Scharff on Aug. 13, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, with the Rev. Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. until services Friday at the church.
