Peter William Volk, 60, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025. Services are pending, to occur in 2026.
Pete was born on September 16, 1965 in Dubuque, to Gerald J. & Mary P. (Reynolds) Volk, and was named after his two grandfathers. He grew up in Cascade, graduating from Cascade High School in 1984. He was raised on a farm, starting in 4th grade. Being on the farm brought new adventures, with 3 wheelers, tractors and skid loaders to drive. As well as learning about livestock & crops from which Pete deservedly earned the CB handle of “Chore Boy”. He was active in 4-H where he exhibited cattle and horses at The Great Jones County Fair. In high school Pete wrestled, played football, and was in FFA.
As an adult, Pete and his family camped, he assisted with his sons’ Boy Scout Troops, he enjoyed cooking, a few ice fishing trips to northern MN, country music and southern rock of the 80’s and 90’s.
He lived in the Cascade & Monticello areas until moving to Cedar Rapids in 1999. He was employed at the Jones County Courthouse for several years, followed by more than two decades working for Linn County in facilities management. He retired from Linn County in early 2024. He made many good friends at both of those jobs.
Pete is survived by his sons Hunter & Tyler, biological daughter, Amy; his father Gerald J. (Naeemah) Volk of Cascade, 3 sisters, Mary J. “Jenni”’ (Jared) Hoefs; Therese M. Volk; Margaret E. “Peg” Volk and 1 brother, Joseph G. (Miranda) Volk, an adored niece, Jolee, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his former wife Deanna.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 2011, his grandparents Peter & Viola Volk and William & Mary Reynolds, two beloved uncles Larry Volk and John Reynolds, aunt and uncle, Nora & Phil Dvorak, and uncle Paul Volk; and 3 cousins: William Reynolds, Ann Juhl, and Phil Dvorak; former mother-in-law Shirley Loop and former brother-in-law Andy Loop. While he never had a pet as an adult, there were many animal buddies he cared for (dogs) Jessie, Lamar, Buster, Chance and Bandit, and his childhood Arabian horse “Hasan”.
Pete’s health declined rapidly over the past few years. His family appreciates all who made efforts to help him.
He loved so many people & he was loved –for the good heart he had, which was shown in many ways, toward many people over the years.
