PETER L. "PETE" GARLINGHOUSE

Peter L. "Pete" Garlinghouse, 67, of Waterloo, formerly of Marion, died at home on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015.
He was born Feb. 12, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Edwin and Betsy Jean Anderson Garlinghouse. He
married Linda Northcutt on June 30, 2007, in Sioux City. After graduating from Marion High School, Pete received his B.A. degree in history at Wartburg College and his Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa in school counseling. He worked as an educator all of his life. Pete taught at Lisbon High School and served as school counselor at Norway, Wilton and Belle Plaine school districts. He served in administrative capacities at Wilton, Vinton and Sioux City school districts. Upon retirement, he worked as a consultant for Skills Iowa, supporting Waterloo schools, and worked for his brother, Paul, at Heartland Recovery in Iowa City. Pete served in the Army National Guard of Iowa from 1970 to 1976.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; four daughters, Betsy (Brett) Hoffman of Coralville, Darcy (Carlos) McMillan of Des Moines, Joely (Jeff) Anderson of New Sharon and Robyn (Abraham) Agu of Pleasant Hill; seven grandchildren, Nick McCullough of Cedar Rapids, Zachary Anderson of New Sharon, Amara, ChiChi and Ebele Agu of Pleasant Hill, and Landon and Connor Hoffman of Coralville; two brothers, Dale (Barb) Garlinghouse of Marion and Paul (Leann Hinker) Garlinghouse of Tiffin; and mother, Betsy Jean Garlinghouse of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Garlinghouse.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Community of Christ, 4616 Cedar Heights Dr., Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo.
