Peshel, Herbert D.
Herbert D. Peshel, 76, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; children, Jennifer (Charles) Kaska of Cedar Rapids, and Lillie (Randy) Briney of Winterset; siblings, Lois Johnson of Waterloo, Larry (Bev) Peshel of Garwin, Sharon (Dennis) Brooks of Ankeny, and Karen (Duane) Speicher of Cedar Rapids; in-laws, Dale (Andrea) Petersen and Craig (Pam) Petersen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Burnis Smith; siblings, Violet Randall and Paul Peshel; brother in-law, Robert Johnson.
Herbert was born on Nov. 4, 1935, son of Joseph Jr. and Cora (Mishler) Peshel. He graduated from Garwin High School in 1953. On Oct. 7, 1961, he married Karen Petersen. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Herbert worked for Evergreen Packaging, formerly Cherry-Burrell, where he retired in 1998. Herbert will be especially remembered as a loving and giving husband and father.
A memorial fund has been established in Herbert's memory.
