Penningroth, William
Funeral services for William Penningroth, 83, of Tipton, who died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Visitation will be one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Red Oak Cemetery, Tipton.
William “Bill” Penningroth was born June 21, 1927, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Edward William and Eunice E. (Johnson) Penningroth. Bill was a 1945 graduate of Tipton High School and attended Iowa State University. He served in the United States Navy. On Nov. 23, 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Mary Jean Rhoads in Mechanicsville. He was a farmer and a member of Tipton Rotary and Farm Bureau.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Penningroth of Tipton; daughter, Lynn (Craig) Emrich of Marion; son, Bruce (Bev) Penningroth of Tipton; grandchildren, Kim (Terry) Mente of Tipton and Angela (Jim) Knox of Melbourne, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Austin and Alyssa Mente.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eunice Penningroth; and sister, Suzanne Dee.
A general memorial fund has been established in memory of Bill.
