Penelope Ann Peacock lost her brave battle with cancer on July 29, 2018.
Penny was born May 23, 1943, in Bremerton, Wash., to George and Virginia West. She was raised in Bremerton; Austin, Minn.; and Nevada, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. Soon after graduation, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she had lived ever since. Penny married Jack Allen Peacock on June 18, 1966.
Penny is survived by her loving husband, Jack Peacock Sr.; brother, Bruce West; her two children, Lynnette Halstead and Jack Jr.; her three grandchildren, Adam Halstead and Amanda Willson and McKean Peacock; and three great-grandchildren, Nia and Alyc Halstead and Wesley Willson. Also, her son-in-law, Ron Halstead Jr.; Marcia Middleton; and Chelsey Hartney and her son, Coleson Hartney.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, George and Virginia West of Nevada, Iowa.
Penny worked as an administrative assistant for the Cedar Rapids school board from August 1988 to May 2005. In 2005, she worked part time as a record keeper at the school board, until she retired in 2016.
Penny was a generous and loving person. She loved spending with her family and friends. She always said she was blessed to have so many people who loved and cared about her.
The family would like to thank everyone who knew and loved her and for the well wishes that were received.
A celebration of life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6. Following the celebration of life, please join us for a toast and a story about Penny at Clancey's Keg, Cedar Rapids, at 5 p.m.
