Peggy Merfeld, 57, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, where friends may register after 9 that morning. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish vigil service will start at 4 p.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Father Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services.

Surviving are her husband Gregg; four children, Amber, her fiance, Justin Siebels, and Austin, all of Monticello, and Andrew and Adam of Iowa City; her grandson, Caelum; her mother, Mary Lou Green of Dubuque; 11 siblings, Dan and Pete of Florida, Cindy (Mike) Loveless, of Georgia, Tim (Mary) of Minnesota, Tony (Angie) of Solon, Mary Ann of Cedar Rapids, Ted (Gerry) of Arizona, Suzie (Chuck) Schneiter of Monticello, Luke of Georgia, Sarah (Andy) Linnell of Solon and Dave of Georgia; and her father-in-law, Carl Merfeld, and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dave (Carol), Danny (Lynn), Amy Bartels and Brad (Tanda), all of Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her father, Milton "Moose" Green; her mother-in-law, Peggy Merfeld; a brother-in-law, Wade; and a sister-in-law, Chris.
Peggy Marie Green was born Aug. 14, 1958, in San Bernardino, Calif., the daughter of Milton and Mary Lou Johnston Green. Peg graduated from Cascade Aquin High School in 1976. She was employed at Cascade Die Mold in Monticello as supervisor for a number of years. Peggy Green and Greg Merfeld were married June 25, 1994, at Riverside Gardens in Monticello. Peg returned to school and got a degree in computer information systems from Kirkwood Community College. For the past 14 years she has been the administrative assistant at the Monticello Police Department.
Peg loved to quilt and made many quilts for fundraisers and benefits. She loved to cook and bake for her family and her extended family at the police department and ambulance service. She was a second mom or grandma to a lot of children in the area.
