Peggy McElligott, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at her residence surrounded by her family under the care of UnityPoint Hospice.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Westside Chapel before the service.
Peggy was born May 5, 1941, in Kansas City, Kan., to Charles Thomas and Maxine Irene (Whitworth) Phillips. She was united in marriage to Erwin "Leo" McElligott on Nov. 19, 1977, in Cedar Rapids.
Peggy worked at Rockwell Collins until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of VFW Auxiliary and Marine Corps League Auxiliary. She loved playing bingo and enjoyed trips to the casino, where she tried her luck at penny slots. She enjoyed getting her nails done and shopping, especially for purses. She collected dolls, as well as figurines of owls, chickens and roosters. She absolutely adored her grandchildren.
Peggy will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Leo; son, David (Shelly) McElligott of Johnston; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, including Paige Ray-Cluney of Cedar Rapids (whom they raised); sister, Brenda Brazeal of Kansas City, Kan.; and son-in-law, Rick Marsh of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Frank Murray; and three children, Thomas Franklin Murray, John Dean Murray and Terri Eleanor Marsh.
A memorial in Peggy's name has been established.
